Though a
few had some issues with the previous, now discontinued HD-DVD edition of the
film, I though the HD-DVD of Michael Curtiz’s The Adventures Of Robin Hood (1938) was one of the best back
catalog releases in that dead format and it is great that it has finally
arrived on Blu-ray from Warner Bros. To
read more about it, as the discs are virtually the same, try this link:

As the
BBC issues their new Robin Hood TV
show on Blu-ray, it is great Warner has finally issued their classic. At the time, some titles Warner issued on
HD-DVD were also issued on Blu-ray and others like this were not. It is the first classic 1.33 X 1 film on
Blu-ray in the U.S. and a three-strip Technicolor one at that, it is instantly
one of the key back catalog titles. It
also holds up very well against the later incarnations on DVD and Blu-ray now,
including the British series we have covered from 1955, 1983 and the active BBC
show. We guess a Blu-ray of the Kevin
Costner version is not far behind, but we definitely recommend this one.
