The
downward spiral of Heather Graham continues with Eric Styles’ confused, would-be
comedy Miss Conception (2007) in which she plays a woman
desperate to get pregnant no matter what.
Faster than you can say “all I
wanna do is make love to you” she is on the find mission for “a good man”
but unfortunately did not start with a good script. That script by Camilla Leslie is muddled,
flat, thin and never goes anywhere, much like Graham’s career of late.
In this
story, Georgina (Graham) drives her boyfriend (Tom Ellis) away when he does not
get her pregnant and while he is gone working has increased fears as early
menopause runs in her family, “justifying” her search for a “donor” without the
lab. If this had been done as a
character study instead of a bad melodrama/comedy combo, this might have been
good, but it never works and is a project that should have been aborted. A misconception indeed.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft, not bad at points, but not a memorable shoot
by Ed Mash either. The Dolby Digital 5.1
mix fares better with some soundfield and ambiance with some music and dialogue
that is at least recorded well. A behind
the scenes featurette is the only extra.
