Personally
I am not really sure what could be worse: getting mauled to death by
ridiculously poor digital ants or having to sit through 90-minutes of watching other
people getting mauled to death by them in 2008’s latest wannabe-horror film
with slightly enticing cover art called The
Hive!
The plot,
as if you couldn’t figure it out for yourself, is about ants – many ants! Apparently there is some super-natural force
guiding these blobs of fake looking, but obviously poor digital blobs, of
massive ants that overtake whatever they land upon and now a scientific team is
called in to investigate this strange behavior.
Oooh.
If you
actually REALLY want to be freaked out by ants, watch a episode on the Driver
Ants, which occasionally shows up on the Discovery Channel and save yourself
the torment of this film that one can only say actually makes 1999’s film Bats seem somehow watchable. I guess Lou Diamond Phillips will be glad he
stayed away from this one!
Standard
1.78 X 1 anamorphic presentation with a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix that are both
average at best and do not hinder the films already poor performance by any
means. Clearly a film for only the most
curious of minds and bored souls, of course most people will think the film is
about bee’s and not ants since bee’s live in hives and ants form colonies, but
that little loop hole is one of only many the film couldn’t get past.
