Psych – The Complete Second Season (Universal DVD)

Psych is
only going to get bigger. The mindless
banter that exists throughout each episode is only the start of its
greatness. The leads in the series argue
daily simplicities that you would only hear amongst the closest of friends, and
for whatever reason it works for this series.
The
series stars Shawn Spencer and Gus, a team of psychic investigators; the only
snag is that Shawn is in no way, actually psychic…just very, very
observant. Shawn spends most of the time
trying to impress the workers of the Santa Barbara Police Department with his
‘psychic skills’ (which he has none) and solve the cases that are thrown at
him. Gus and Shawn spend most of the
time in ridiculous arguments that are beyond hilarious. The duo are like an updated Odd Couple, where Shawn is the
hyperactive act now one and Gus is the over precautious, wait and see
type. Together they make comedy gold,
all while keeping the audience entertained with captivating crime cases. The series is a pure joy that is going to go
far.
The set
contains all 16 unaltered episodes from Season
Two. The episodes are as follows (4

This is
one of the most horrible presentations this reviewer has ever experienced,
PSYCH!! Actually the picture, sound, and
special features are quite good. The
picture is presented in a 1.78 X 1 Anamorphic Widescreen that has good color
and is fairly crisp, reflecting its High Def filming style well, though there
is a degree of contrast and grit issues that still exist. The sound is presented in an adequate Dolby
Digital 5.1 Surround that mostly comes from the front in this dialogue driven
series, with only the occasional BOOM or POP coming from the other speakers.
The
golden element of this second season set is the extra features section. Extras are plentiful and should make any Psych fan very happy. Extras include:
- 10 Deleted Scenes (Disc 1),
10 Deleted Scenes (Disc 2), 11 Deleted Scenes (Disc 3), and 11 Deleted
Scenes (Disc 4)
- Other Series Previews (Coach,
Quantum Leap, etc.)
- Gag Reel
- Commentaries (lots on each
Disc)
- ‘Psych-Outs’ featurette
(basically very funny fake scenes)
- Where’s the Pineapple Game
- The Name Game
Each of
the extras is extremely funny and worth viewing; all while maintaining a very rewatchable
quality. Psych is a good set to demonstrate exactly what fans want. A solid amount of interesting extras that
both cast and crew had input on are present here and fans are sure to enjoy.
This
reviewer had never seen the series Psych
previously, but now is in love with the whole concept. The series is smart, funny, and well
cast. With a constant banter between the
main characters the series makes this reviewer feel right at home. Just like peaches are the citrus fruit of the
gods…actually they are a stone fruit.
