Alice Upside Down – The Movie (2006/Anchor Bay DVD)

Alice Upside Down is another tweens franchise I had
never heard of and could care less about.
Now a “Movie” version is out on DVD and the only good thing I can say
about yet another precocious gal (Alyson Stoner) breaking the fourth wall and
having “fun” is that it is child safe and the makers managed to land Luke Perry
and Penny Marshall in supporting roles.
Based on
the Phyllis Reynolds Naylor book series, this one has the title character
moving to a new area and trying to fit into a new school. Common as that is, we have seen that done a
hundred times and usually better than here, but we have seen worse and very
mildly recommend it for young ladies at best.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image has fair color, is soft and shot in HD
of some kind, while the Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 mixes have some major
compression issues and forget about soundfields. Extras include sneak peeks, costumes featurette
and two separate interviews with the leads.
