In
between his own hit films (48 HRS)
and franchises (Alien) bearing his
name, Walter Hill tried some unusual productions on the side and had been a
successful writer (Hickey & Boggs,
The Getaway) for years up to the
time he co-wrote and produced Michelle Manning’s Blue City in 1986. Unlike
the cult following Monster Squad from
a year later (reviewed elsewhere on this site) gained, this was a dud few
remember and for good reason.
Judd
Nelson and Ally Sheedy watch their careers implode as he plays a guy back at
home in Florida where (surprise?) his father has been killed. He deciders to do something about it, no
mater how often he trips up or gets beat up.
This drags on and on like a recent speech Sheedy gave for an indie film
she made and has nowhere to go. Scott
Wilson, David Caruso and Paul Winfield also star in this forgettable mess that
is a curio for the most curious.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is soft, with problematic color and poor
detail. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is a
little better, but even Ry Cooder‘s score cannot save this obnoxious romp. There are no extras.
