Steel Trap

Try to
get another few “cuts” out of the success of the Saw franchise and mix it with
the maniac cycle, Luis Camara’s Steel
Trap (2007) is another tired exercise in which teen-like people (especially
female) “go to the wrong places” and therefore, must die. Yes, they don’t even have to have sex before
being bludgeoned; just looking “sexy” is grounds for execution.
This
time, it begins with the joy and fun of a New Year’s Eve party in an office
building, but no one should have fun in business buildings, so they must die
for not being there only for labor purposes.
Yawn! This is yet another torture
porn exercise and a dumb, tired one at that.
You can’t get blood from a stone, though no stones were harmed during
the making of this mess, but staring at a pile of them would have been more
tolerable than the story-less mutilation exercise we get here. Too bad Bruce Willis did not show up with a
machine gun.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is colorful, but soft and has its share of motion blur
throughout. Compositions are not great
and Director of Photography Patrick Popow does nothing special here. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix has a soundfield
if nothing else and it was still boring.
Extras include stills, trailer, making of featurette and very boring
audio commentary by Camara.
Be sure
to cut this one off of your must-see list.
