Warner
Bros. is starting to catch up to issuing titles they once held as HD-DVD
exclusives, including James McTeigue’s version of V For Vendetta (2006) as produced by The Wachowski Brothers. My extensive look at the film can be found at
this link:

The extras
and the very good looking (and sometimes demonstration quality) 1080p digital
High Definition image are all the same, so in that respect, the disc is a
match. The Dolby Digital Plus is
replaced by a very similar regular Dolby Digital 5.1 track, one that even
decodes with EX. However, even with the
best mix being the thankfully retained Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mix, the problems with
some of the dialogue are still here but were minor to me. *However, we did have problems getting to the
TrueHD through the menus, only giving us the standard Dolby Digital. More languages in that codec are included
versus the HD-DVD.
In some
cases, you may have more trouble getting to the TrueHD, but it is worth the
effort. Especially after their
disembowelment of Speed Racer was
such a disaster, maybe this most mature and effective of all Wachowski films
will finally get its due, no matter how British it was and is to U.S.
audiences.
