Corolla tries to become a comedy/drama actor playing an unlikely boxer trying
to improve his life in the usually predictable and lifeless Charles
Herman-Wormfeld-directed The Hammer
(2007) which is based on a story originally penned by Corolla. It is also a romance and the sheer
inexperience of everyone involved, as well as Corolla not stretching himself
beyond his talk show/variety show persona makes this a even flatter and duller.
The
unknown cast is as dull and to say this is everything you have seen before
would be a major understatement. I was
bored, very bored and can’t believe Corolla did not think this through better. See it at your own risk.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft, though color can look good at
times, buts is too soft throughout for a new production. Is this an HD shoot? The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is better with a
good soundfield and is the only thing here that ever works well. Extras include stills, trailers, outtakes,
deleted scenes, a making of featurette, interview piece and Ozzie’s Recoding Session.
