A bad
comedy that took a while to make it to DVD or any other format, Hart Bochner’s Just Add Water (2006) is a tired
would-be comedy about a local guy in a desert town (Dylan Walsh) who decides to
save his town, follow his dreams (by staying there!?!) going after his
childhood sweetheart and make his hometown livable again. Jonah Hill and Justin Long show up and cannot
save this, while Danny DeVito only has a cameo.
It also
has no good script, with Bochner’s work so self impressed as to be almost smug,
but it is not substantial enough to do that.
At 91 minutes, it just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on
and on and on and on with no point and no laughs. Maybe you’ll find it funny… somehow, but if
you are not remotely interested, skip it.
Any laughs are a mirage.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is shockingly soft for a new production,
with lame color and boring flatness throughout, while the Dolby Digital 5.1 is
weak, has limited surrounds and dialogue is not as well recorded as it should
be. There are no extras.
