Kenny The Shark – Catch A Wave (Genius DVD)

The last
time we had a hit talking shark, it had Curly’s voice from The Three Stooges
and was Hanna-Barbera’s Jabberjaw. Kenny
The Shark could almost be his cousin and despite the different sharks that
have surfaced in animated features lately (A
Shark’s Tale, Finding Nemo) has
some very similar art characteristics.
Catch A Wave features seven shows form the hit
Discovery kids channel show, which makes the title character a good friend of
children, especially Kat and is actually refreshing at a time when actual
sharks are becoming extinct and because the media (big ands small) has nothing
better to do, cheaply vilifies them. The
show is not much more than a children’s romp of some quality, safe for most of
the younger ages, but the shows can become repetitious. However, it is worth a look and fans will
enjoy the accessibility minus the commercials here.
The 1.33
X 1 image throughout is clean and clear, with some good color, if reserved like
too many productions today. That means
that the Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has no palpable Pro Logic surrounds, but is
cleanly recorded. The only extra is an 8th
bonus episode, Creep of The Deep.
