Stargate: Infinity – The Complete Animated Series (Shout! Factory)

Created
as an animated counterpart to the array of popular Stargate live-action series, Stargate
Infinity appeared on the FOX Network and mainly centered on the Stargate SG-1 storyline. The series premiered in September 2002 as was
immensely unpopular, only running one season.
This reviewer can clearly see why the series failed. The series lacked the heart, character depth,
and captivating story arches that were found in the Stargate SG-1 series that inspired its creation. If nothing else the animated series seems to
be nothing more than a desperate attempt to milk Stargate SG-1 for all it was worth.
Not a single person who starred in or developed the Stargate SG-1 series was involved in Stargate: Infinity and it undoubtedly shows.
The plot
of the series is unremarkable and can be summated quickly. The storyline of Stargate: Infinity takes place 30 years after the first SG-1 mission. The Stargate is now public knowledge and many
‘aliens’ now live amongst humans on earth.
Certain members of the original SG-1 team have been wrongly accused of
committing certain crimes and must travel to different worlds through the
Stargate to clear their names. All 26
episodes of the lackluster series are found here on this 4-disc set.
The
technical features of this series are not bad, but are simple at best. The picture is presented in a 1.33 X 1 full
screen with nice bright colors and a crisp image. The animation is nothing fancy and leaves
much detail to be desired. The sound is
also merely adequate in its Dolby Digital Stereo format with a sound quality
that is not bad, but also not great. The extras are pretty poor only offering
the few fans that exist an Animated
Stargate Effects Test, never before seen Animated Character Walking Models, and some Original Concept Art. All
the extras are boring and neither adds nor detracts from the already
floundering series.
To add to
the annoyance (or disgrace) that Stargate:
Infinity brought the Stargate saga is that none of the story arches of the
26 episode season are finished. So even
if you suffer through all 26 episodes with some form of enjoyment, do not
expect anything to be resolved. In the
end, this reviewer calls this series a definite skip; stick with the SG-1 live action series… it is a
classic.
