Out of
curiosity, I wondered if Exes & Ohs
– The Complete First Season could be any more interesting or mature than
similar gay male TV series hitting cable.
Though predictable and even formulaic, it was still more interesting and
mature than its gender counterparts and features some fairly good performances
in this short first set of episodes.
Indie
film star Heather Matarazzo is the known cast member here and steals many of
her scenes, even when she is not the main character. I hope the success of this show allows her to
get back to big screen projects as well.
Though just getting started and far from able to claim to be a landmark
of major importance, it could grow into a better show once it gets the
introductions and basics out of the way.
We’ll see what happens. Those
interested might want to see it for what they think, just because it is so
different.
The
letterboxed 1.78 X 1 image is loaded with motion blur, making it understandable
as to why it is not anamorphically enhanced here, though at least the color is
not highly manipulated. The Dolby
Digital 2.0 sound is weakly stereo.
Extras include interviews, web snippets and a behind the scenes look at
the show.
