Drew Hastings – Irked & Miffed (DVD-Video + CD/Image Entertainment)
Picture: C+ Sound/both formats: B- Extras: D Concert: C
I had
never heard of Drew Hastings, but here he is in his own concert on CD and DVD
entitled Irked & Miffed as both
issued by Image Entertainment. Running
63 minutes, I expected what I get from most comics, smiles but no real
laughs. Sometimes, it is worse and they
are both talentless and predictable. In
this case, for the first time in a while, Hastings comes up with some good
ideas, but over and over cannot get the most out of them.
To his
advantage, he has some self-deprecating humor about his age and it is
smart. I even nearly laughed at some
points, but I would like to see where he’ll be in a few years. In that time, it will truly be make or break,
but if he can grow, he could be a big name in the future. In the meantime, it might be worth your time
to catch him now just to see what you think at this stage.
The 1.33
X 1 image is colorful and consistent, but has detail issues, while the PCM
16/44.1 2.0 Stereo on the CD and Dolby Digital 5.1 & 2.0 Stereo mixes on
the DVD show their sonic limits in some compression and lack of overall
fidelity. There are no extras.
