Jay
Russell’s Water Horse – Legend Of The
Deep (2007) was a mild success when it hit theaters late last year. It is now hitting home video on DVD and Blu-ray
at the same time. We looked at the DVD
recently, where you can read more about the film at this link:

Now that
we have the Blu-ray, the question is, how much of an improvement is it over the
DVD? Well, the 1080p 2.35 X 1 digital
High Definition image shot in Super 35mm by Director of Photography Oliver
Stapleton is nicely improved here, considering the color is duller than usual
and there is digital animation. Though
the digital animation is still not bad and has little motion blur, depth and
solidness of the picture are the reasons it is better than the DVD. The Dolby True HD 5.1 outdoes the Dolby Digital
5.1 English from the DVD and Spanish & Thai uses here, with some good
surrounds in all cases. The dialogue is clearer,
but this is usually a subtle mix until the surrounds kick in nicely. Extras include six featurettes and deleted
scenes like the DVD, but adds the Blu-ray Exclusive Virtual Crusoe Game good for kids.
