Meerkat Manor – Season Two (Animal Planet/Genius DVD)

A close
relation to the mongoose, the meerkat is one of the lesser-known mammals, that
is until the network Animal Planet decided to do a TV series about them and it
is a hit of sorts. All 13 half-hours of Meerkat Manor – Season Two are out on 2
DVDs and though the animals themselves can be interesting to watch, but like a
few other shows, I do not like the style in which it is produced.
That is
to say, they narrative it to death, trying to make them into a soap opera and
naming all of them, which is always silly and bizarre, but to stretch it into a
series is a bit much. The result can be
condescending and have more than a case of the cutes for its and our own
good. Yes, it is that kind of show, but
maybe you’d enjoy that kind of thing.
The rest of us can skip it.
The
letterboxed 1.78 X 1 image has some minor aliasing, but is watchable and
consistent from episode to episode. This
is likely not anamorphically enhanced as the shoot was not that HD. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is fine,
including the narration. There are no
extras.
