South Park - Imaginationland (DVD)

With the South Park theatrical film so funny, I
expected Imaginationland to be
almost as funny as and more ambitious than we get here, which can be funny, but
also gets a bit lazy. On the plus side
is the hilarious use of sacred children’s characters, but the one-note oral sex
bet joke wears thin very quickly in a feature with no songs this time.
To add to
the mix, terrorists are attacking this land and the gang is once again caught
in the middle. We have seen this before
and it can still be funny, but for this show to criticize the likes of Family
Guy for being repetitive is a bit much, though that does not happen here. 85 minutes is more than long enough.
The letterboxed
1.78 X 1 image is not bad, but why is it not anamorphic? Either way, color is consistent and this
looks as good as any of the episode sets.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 is better than the Dolby 2.0 Stereo, but both are
clean and clear enough to hear the jokes, though some sound effects are not bad. Extras include storyboards, two bonus shows
and those mini-commentaries by Matt & Trey.
