Vision has added the CD version of the concert as a double set. As it stands, I was not as big a fan of the
show as Nate was, nor was I as impressed with the DVD sound and picture. However, the CD’s PCM CD Stereo cannot
compete with the DTS 5.0 mix, as limited as I think it is. That the concert is 5.0 at best shows that it
was not taped under the most optimal pro-5.1/multi-channel circumstances. It is still not bad, but the CD hits a
ceiling that was a bit of a surprise.
There seems to be a slight ceiling of compression or bits-limitation on
the sound. It also, naturally, follows the same track order listed in the first
review.
As for
the performance, the theatricals are still what we would expect from the
outrageous Cooper, but the vocal performances are not with the full Rock gusto
that made him a force to be reckoned with.
Some of the vocals fare better than others, but on hits like I’m Eighteen, No More Mr. Nice Guy, and School’s Out simply are not carried off
at their best. With the DVD at least,
you can enjoy the visuals. Having the
set together, fans can remember the visuals when they can only play the music.
However,
for the price difference and the collectibility of the set, this new reissue is
worth getting if you have not picked up the single DVD yet. Cooper fanatics will own both.
