Tripping The Rift – The Movie: Unrated (Starz DVD/Computer Animation)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Feature: D

Tripping The Rift was a small-run CG TV show that has less than a cult following and would seem like old news.  We covered the two seasons a while ago as these links will show:

Now comes The Movie: Unrated and it would have been better off if it had been “unmade” because it lacks what little energy or humor the show had, is tired and worst of all, replaces Carmen Elektra with the always lame Jenny McCarthy and her sudden role as anti-autism advocate (as important as that obviously is) does not change a thing.

When this begins with a spoof of Terminator 2 16 years late(r) and with dumb humor, you know you are in trouble.  It gets worse and 75 wasted minutes later, you can only ask “why?”  Avoid it!

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is at least as soft and color limited as the original series if not worse, while the Dolby Digital 5.1 is more assuredly poorer with the sound too much in the front channels and overall recording no improvement from the first series.  The meager extras include a trailer for this ands two other Starz releases, but not the original shows (!?!) and a very brief making of piece that is not even seven minutes long.

Yawn!
