Carver – Unrated: The Grisly Edition (Allumination DVD)

The
torture porn/exploitation/mutilation well continues to spring fourth with
garbage and the latest dud deserving of a trip to the nearest trash compactor
is writer/director Franklin Guerrero’s inept, idiotic celebration of snuff
filmmaking, Carved!
Of
course, it is not shot on film and is so cheap that when the inevitable
teens-in-the-middle-of-nowhere (you’d think they’d bring guns after all this
cycle of junk) come across the films and watch them, you can tell it is more
video and not Super 8mm or 16mm film.
They watch them not knowing whether they are real of amateur
productions. You’ll definitely settle
for the later.
In the
storyline however, they are actual murders and this gang will be the next of a
series of victims. It even tries to make
some big statement by having a survivor rewatch the same films and be upset,
but you’ll experience a different kind of upset if you see this catastrophe of
mutilation. Note they added the word
“grisly” to get attention. You should
turn yours elsewhere.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is one of the weakest we have seen
lately with poor color, bad video shooting and if this is more than a low-def
shoot, someone really botched the transfer, but we doubt it since it looks
cheap in the dumbest way. Though the
sound here is a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, it is more like simple 16bit digital PCM
stereo spread around. The combination is
about as lame as the final product.
Extras
(they did some) include two dumb audio commentary tracks, unrated trailer
(oooooooooooooooooooohhhh!) and deleted scenes, which is ironic since the whole
thing seem like a deleted scene!
