Outpost

In
another one of the dumbest zombie films of this worst cycle of all, Steve
Barker’s Outpost (2007) decides to
make theirs the result of Nazi experiments for a super race. Yes, they suddenly rise a half century
later? Forget the possibility of
trivializing WWII, The Holocaust and other important aspects of this history,
this is more like a very bad rip off of the werewolf film Dog Soldiers (reviewed elsewhere on this site) than anything else.
Ray
Stevenson (coming up as the third actor to play The Punisher, though there was
nothing wrong with Thomas Jane from a few years ago) is the head of a troop of
soldiers in Eastern Europe. Eventually,
they find a simple tour of duty turning into a fight for their life and the
Horror Action ensues. Too bad it is
everything we have seen before, is more tired than ever and the only reason
Sony probably picked this u is because of the new Punisher film. Wait until then if you need to see Stevenson
that badly.
The
anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image has its color gutted and is softer as a
result, coming across as a tired joke and not offering any memorable shots to
boot. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is fair,
with dialogue limits form the original recording (or mismixing) and healthy
surrounds sometimes, though they can overrun the talking more than they
should. Deleted scenes are the only
extra and boring.
