Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather (Genius/RHI DVD)

Of the
many imitators and crashers in on the big money reeled in by Harry Potter, Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather is one of
the worst, most obvious, most tired and lamest of all the fantasy productions
in its shadow. Even with David Jason,
Tony Robinson, Michelle Dockery, Stephen Marcus, David Warner and Joss Ackland
in the cast, this is just a mess that never adds up and wastes as much talent
as it does our time.
This is
based on Pratchett’s Discworld books,
but I would have to see those books to see if they have any substance or if
this is close to the text, because this looks like everything we’ve seen
before. See it at your own risk.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image looks awful, with bad and badly executed
digital effects all over the place and is soft throughout, making a cheap
production look all the cheaper. The
Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is barely stereo and weak overall. Extras include a trailer and Pratchett
interview.
