Instead
of just one decent show for young people, Try,
Try Again! – Volume One offers three revolving character shows from the hit
Ready, Set, Learn! Series including
Wilbur the Cow, Paz the Penguin and The Save-Ums – tiny superheroes who help
the youngest develop quantitative thinking by showing up when there are
problems and puzzles.
A hit on
Discovery Kids, the little mini-segments work and work well, though some may
feel it is some of what we have seen before.
However, it is more hit than miss in this respect and cable TV sorely
needs more such shows of this quality before any network can consider itself in
the league of PBS. That is for those
aiming for a young audience. I like the
show, but wonder how long it can go on.
For as long as it lasts, let’s hope it continues to be a great success
that grows.
The 1.33
X 1 image is shot in NTSC analog video for all the shows here, looking very
good and like first-generation transfers, making them watchable with only minor
flaws and limits in detail. The Dolby
Digital 2.0 Stereo is also clean, new, recently recorded and decent. Extras include episodes of previous reviewed
series like Bigfoot Presents, Peep & ToddWorld, plus Music Videos essentially plugging Wilbur, Hi-5 and Hip Hop Harry. The case comes with a booklet inside with
compatible video on the disc on creative play, school readiness and emotional
intelligence involving children. The
later is some of the best we’ve seen in child DVD releases to date.
