A
formulaic family film, Daniel Zirilli’s Fast
Girl (2007) holds together better than most such product we have seen
lately, no matter how predictable, no mater how obvious its somewhat
conservative politics are despite a female lead (Mircea Monroe) who is trying
to do car racing in what is still a “man’s world” and with many restrictions.
What does
save the film is that the actors are really trying to deliver and the D. Glase
Lomond/Luke Ricci screenplay manages to be more coherent than expected, making
up for some of its formula. Caroline
Rhea also shows up in what we might call the Alice/Waitress portion
of the tale and she is good too. Though
not ground-breaking, Fast Girl is
competent and we don’t see that enough.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is soft and color-challenged, though
consistent on that lesser level. The
Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo can be loud and harsh at times, but is not bad
overall. Extras include a trailer and
making of featurette.
