Some
films are so bad that even The Razzies miss them and Mike Barker’s Shattered (2007) is one of the worse of
this or any year, in a tired tale about a couple (Gerard Butler, Maria Bello)
who are kidnapped by a maniac (Pierce Brosnan, who seems to be taking on
anything since he lost the Bond role) who says he wants money and has an
accomplice who kidnapped his daughter.
Unfortunately,
it is the very worst of the now hundreds of films that was to outdo the twists
of M. Night Shyamalan grossly overrated Sixth
Sense, though there is nothing supernatural here – just super stupid!
Three
likable actors are wasted in this silly and ultimately waste of energy because
it keeps hinting it has some kind of mystery going on and what you get is a big
con like Hitler’s Diaries. The 95 minutes should have been a clue that
this lacked substance, but that is it as hollow and empty as is
outrageous. Avoid like a cancer!!!
The
anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image is a little softer than it should be for
a new production, especially one with three major stars like this, but the
problems are consistent with this mess. The
Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is better than the 2.0 mix, but both are louder and more
show-off than they need to be, also telling us the makers knew the film was in
trouble. Extras include two featurettes,
an audio commentary, deleted and alternate scenes, all of which further the
tragedy of how bad this is.
