A few of
our critics have complained that companies who put TV on DVD on the market
often issue unnecessary singles, when they should issue seasonal box sets. My only argument in defense of the companies
is that sometimes, especially in children’s programming, you may only want (or
can only afford) a single DVD. We previously
looked at a single Between The Lions DVD
disc called The Chap With Caps, as
this link will show:

Quite a
while later, WGBH has decided to issue the entire first season, which is more
of the same, but that is a good thing as you cannot motivate children to read
books enough. The technical performance
is the same, the positive messages about imagination and self-assuredness
through education (especially reading) is all here. It is also a point never thrown at the
viewer. The Muppet-like show is not
exactly The Electric Company, but it
is still one of the most progressive, best educational entertainment shows
around. There are 30 half-hours here and
in this case, more is better.
Extras include
DVD-ROM downloadable activity guides in English and Spanish, as well as
documents for educators, plus featurette Leading The Way To Literacy.
