Amusingly
bad, but very, very bad, writer/director Matt Flynn’s Hack! (2007) is not a total hack job in its attempt to badly
imitate the Scream franchise and
wastes 100 minutes doing everything we’ve seen before, minus any imagination
and wit. Horror fans and filmmakers go
in the middle of nowhere and surprise (!!!?) start getting killed. Yawn!
If you
know about bad writers and filmmakers, you know that “hack” also applies to the
worst of them and this mess comes close.
Remarkably, it is not a total torture porn expedition, but it is very,
very lame and if Flynn had not been so smug and bored, he might have come up
with something interesting to do here.
Instead, the viewer suffers almost as much as the murder victims.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is weak, shot with a sense of static and
is not very memorable, with limited detail and depth. Color can be an issue. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is passable, but
has no surrounds, is on the weak side and not edited that well. Sound effects can be forward and
overdone. Extras include the trailer and
that is all.
