The cycle
of shallow movies based on skits from the somehow still-on-the-air Saturday Night Live has now extended
outside of the once great series as Bob Odenkirk’s dreadful The Brothers Solomon (2007) proves you can do the same stupid kind
of project without the famous TV show.
That says volumes of bad things about SNL, but boy is this lame.
Will
Arnett and Will Forte are the title characters, dorks beyond belief who somehow
turned out this way despite having Lee Majors (shockingly wasted here) as a
father, who go on a mission to bear him grandchildren before he likely
dies. He is already in a coma, but this
will not stop them from being stupid and doing everything wrong to achieve this
goal. The joke is they are dorks and it
is somehow supposed to be funny as they try in vein. This fails and though this is not the worst
of the dummies cycle, it5 comes close.
Avoid it!
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image has all kinds of motion blur and looks
like it was shot in high definition, making for a presentation as dull and
color-flat as a current bad sitcom, conveniently matching the lousy script. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is also very flat,
to the front speakers and rarely has any activity outside of the bad
jokes. Extras include a dull making of
piece, boring deleted scenes, a gag featurette with no laughs and audio
commentary with the leads that is also a waste of time.
