The Best Of The Colbert Report (Comedy Central DVD)
Picture:

Truthiness
reigns in this all-star compilation of humorist Stephen Colbert's eponymous Colbert Report. Mock-journalist Colbert delivers some of his
greatest hits on this two-plus hour disc that features his unique brand of
subversive, "right-wing" journalism. Wordsmith Colbert is equal parts real-world
Bill O'Reilly and movie news man Ron Burgundy, and his incisive wit and
commentary never fails to move the laugh meter.
Highlights
of this disc include Colbert's interview with O'Reilly, the source, or at the
very least the inspiration, of much of his shtick, green-screen light saber
antics, and a cooking session with some feminists that will elicit several
belly laughs. Fans may be hoping this
will be only the beginning of such DVD releases.
The taped
Picture and Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound quality is standard for Comedy
Central productions, giving the disc adequate scores in both areas, and
allowing the viewer unhindered enjoyment of Colbert's work. Extras are a bit thin on this disc. There are no out-takes, gag-reels, or other
bonus materials to grant fans a behind the scenes peak at the show's
production. Dedicated fans will still
want to add this compilation to their collections, keeping it handy for a quick
dose of "truthiness" whenever the cable goes out and they can't get
any Fox News coverage.
