Elvis – Destination Vegas (MVD Visual)

Elvis may
not be alive, but his popularity remains nothing short of remarkable and likely
helping this are the myths and stereotypes of him versus the real thing. Though considered not as impressive, his
later years in Las Vegas were still hugely successful and Elvis – Destination Vegas (2007) is a program that looks at those
years for better and worse with rarely seen footage.
There are
also bold observations that are not always complimentary, yet never mean to
degrade the legend. At the time, a few
feature concert films were made by MGM and you can see some of that
footage. Those films have yet to be
remastered and reissued in their original form, but are underrated. This program is one of the few consistent
looks at that final era and is worth a look, even if you are not a fan.
The 1.33
X 1 image varies in quality due to the age of the source material and
documentary nature of the release in general, but we have seen worse and Elvis
fins should still find this material enjoyable.
The Dolby Digital 2.0 is monophonic in the older audio and barely stereo
in the new, but again, that any of this survived is something. Extras include stills and audio of Elvis
accompanied by more rare footage.
