After
watching Jonathan Creek – Season Two
in DVD, it is apparent that we can officially say we have a comedy/mystery
cycle in British TV that can produce interesting shows, but is not necessarily
great or a good thing long term for either genre. However, Alan Davies and Caroline Quentin are
entertaining as the leads and its hit status makes sense for the most part.
This new
DVD set has six hour-long slotted shows which make for a while season, though
in the old days, that would have been a very low output. Still, the shows are consistent and you could
do worse. I just thought the comedy wore
thin due to lack of wit after a certain point.
The case
says the image is anamorphically enhanced widescreen, but it is really
letterboxed 1.66 X 1 and is not bad, though detail, depth and even color issues
at times. Otherwise, it is watchable
enough. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is
nice and clean for a recent recording, though it has no surrounds. There are no extras either.
