Blood Monkey/In The Spider’s Web (Genius/RHI/DVD-Video)

With so
many Horror titles on the shelves, a glut like nothing seen before is upon
us. Like most gluts, the product is
usually lame, including TV movies. RHI
Entertainment has issued two of their thrown-together telefilms, separately on
DVD with no extras. F. Murray Abraham is
stuck in Blood Money, trying to hunt
down the title killer, but after the Peter Jackson King Kong, wow is this silly.
It’s only saving grace is how wacky Abraham’s performance gets as he
easily outacts the rest of the cast.
Lance
Henriksen turns up in In The Spider’s
Web as an arachno-expert as a bunch of nature-lovers find themselves
attacked. Of course, killer spider’s
usually fear big cities, which is likely the reason (and not lower budgets in
the middle of nowhere) they never attack outside of jungles. And yes, the locals love the little killers,
so its there fault too.
The 1.33
X 1 image on both is soft, has color limits, is shot poorly, has depth issues
and edge enhancement throughout. The
Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo on both sounds too compressed for its own good, but is
still better than the picture by default.
You can imagine why there are no
extras.
