Whatever
the intent of writer/director Jerry Saulnier’s Murder Party (2007) is, it never works. It is a comedy, but is never funny. It is maybe a satire, but never really sends
up anything. It is a Horror flick of
some kind, but that never adds up either.
Chris is a guy dressed oddly in time for a Halloween Party, but lands up
being tormented by would-be artists.
Sounds like a metaphor for this mess.
Throughout
its 80 minutes, you hope it might pick up, but it just runs on and on, too
impressed with its would-be sense of humor and the like. This is one party to skip.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft, has some motion blur and is
obviously shot on video, but not so well.
Color is consistent for what it is.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 mixes use surrounds to some extent, but
the recording can be flawed at times and soundfield choppy. Extras feature length audio commentary,
pumpkin bread recipe, three featurettes and outtakes/bloopers.
