Saw III – Director’s Cut (DVD-Video Set)
Picture:
C+ Sound: B Extras: C- Film: D
It is odd
to see another DVD of any film arrive once the HD-DVD and/or Blu-ray has been
issued, but Saw III is another such
film, arriving in a 2 DVD Director’s Cut
(pun intended?) from Lionsgate. As we
already covered the trilogy in Blu-ray, here is the link with all the comments
we need to make on the subject:

This set
is simply an excuse to promote the fourth film, which we cannot image could be
any better than the last one in a series that has run out of ideas faster than
its victims do blood. More footage and/or
different editing do nothing to save this from being a tired turkey and since
the Blu-ray was the poorest in the series, did they really think this would
help the film? Well, it does not.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is a lesser
version (if that is possible) of the same image on the Blu-ray, with the
now-very-tired color gutting and green-vision that has become this franchise’s
tired signature. Video Black is
especially poor and the DTS ES 6.1 is not quite as full as that of the DTS HD
version on the Blu-ray, but is still good and the default highlight of this
disc, surpassing the Dolby Digital 5.1 EX mix.
Extras recycle the three mini-featurettes, preview for the new film,
trivia game, and repeat of the three audio commentaries from the earlier
releases.
If you “saw” it once and before, you “saw” all you need to
see. For diehard fans who are not
already bored.
