Civic Duty (2007)

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Film: C+

Peter Krause plays a man who suspects his neighbor is an Islamic Terrorist, but he just may be a pawn in something much uglier in Jeff Renfroe’s sometimes interesting thriller Civic Duty (2007) as he becomes more and more involved.  So is the FBI, but we don’t know why and where the film is going to go.

Sadly, neither does writer Andrew Joiner or Renfroe, who cannot bring the film to a conclusion that adds up, makes sense or says something (whatever it may be) that one or both of them may or may not know of.  Will those points of view even agree?  Too bad, because Krause is impressive and even outacts the cast around him.  If nothing else, this should get him well deserved attention.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image looks good, but has detail limits throughout.  Color can be weak, but this looks good otherwise.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Stereo mixes are good enough, but have no real surrounds, though the recording has the clarity of a new work.  The only extra is a theatrical trailer.
