Inga Rumpf & Friends At Rockpalast (Inakustik DVD Concert)
Picture: C+ Sound: B- Extras: C Concert: C+
Though I
had never heard of her, Inga Rumpf is a major figure in German music, a major
Folk Rock figure who has endured since the early 1960s. Inga
Rumpf & Friends At Rockpalast was trapped in Hamburg, 2005 and features
the legend in a fourteen-song set.
Except for the James Brown classic It’s
A Man’s World, two other songs and Bessie Smith classic Backwater Blues, all the songs are hers
and are not bad.
However,
the set did not add up for me as expected and though it is something different,
it was not very memorable. Maybe she was
more exciting back then or this is not my kind of music, but this is for fans
and the curious only. A plus though is
the great audience she hosts, making for interesting results, even when you are
not impressed with the music.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 x 1 image has some weak Video Black, motion blur
issues and detail issues, but color is not bad and depth is above average. The DTS 5.1 is better than the Dolby Digital
5.1 and PCM 16/48 2.0 Stereo, but still has some soundstage limits of its
own. Extras include a slideshow, backstage
interview and bonus concert footage from her hometown of Hamburg in 2005. The main program was taped in Bonn.
