How did
Jamaica produce a successful dog sledding team?
After hit films on the subject and special interest segments on the news
about it, a new documentary backed by Jimmy Buffett and released by Palm
Pictures called Sun Dogs is now on
DVD and it is not bad.
It is
everything you wanted to know about the subject but were afraid to ask, sharing
the unusual circumstances on how this happened.
The 90 minutes moves from how Jamaica is being exploited as one person
notes they have so many resources, but hardly anyone there benefits from
them. Then it shifts to this story and
the dogs become stars as well. Beyond
that, it does not have much else to say, but the laidback style will appeal to
some viewers and shows a hopeful side of the country. There is not much else to it, but it is
consistent and worth a look for those interested.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image was shot on video and has motion blur no
matter whether this was HD or not. It is
annoying, but locations and the subject help us make it through. Also, it is performance typical of
documentaries. The Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo shows variance and flaws in the raw location taping. The combination is good for what it is. Extras include five featurettes surrounding
the dogs and the sport. All in all, dog
and animal lovers will enjoy this.
