Kyo Kara Maoh! God(?) Save Our King! - Season Two, Volume Three

Picture: C+     Sound: B-     Extras: C-     Episodes: A

Entering its second season, we already looked at the first three DVDs of the first season by another critic who was not as happy with the series.  Entering the second season, Yuri is just your average teenage boy.  But that is until one day after finding himself down on his luck (near a toilet?) he finds himself in to a medieval world with demons and humans fighting one another, and he is told that he is the reincarnation of The Demon King.  Not only does he inherit incredible powers of demon king, but he has to deal with the war between humans and demons.  But even thought things are on the brink of war he believes things can be solved without violence, not exactly how a Demon King rules... But in all he tries his best, earning the respect of his people, his countrymen and his close (maybe too close ^_^) followers and subjects.

This series is a particularly a laugh riot, and as long as you keep in mind that crazy things may happen things remain amusing.  In this world with demons, humans, monsters and magic, many of the so called 'demons' look very often like pretty boys, but the laugh riot is when the reincarnation of the demon king is this innocent, naive young boy (and with the soul of girl) that all his subjects are either fawning over him, getting him to become a good ruler, or just trying to get him in bed.  But in all, the series give the feel like they are more like group of friends than subject and ruler relationships and the crazy incidents they get placed in sets up for many funny situations and misunderstandings.

At first I thought this was another lame series where boy goes to magic world and gets incredible powers and saves the world, but it turned out it was more amusing and laughable once I got into it.  With each episode it is more like a drama of friends and I found myself just watching one episode after another.  And even though it wasn't the end of the world (ok, sometimes it was...) it was the little revolutions we find within. A good series for child or grown up alike.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1/16 X 9 image is stylized with the usual white hazing, another cliché.  However, it is clean and clear otherwise, looking really good otherwise.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo in either Japanese or English both have Pro Logic surrounds.  The only extra includes three previews for other Geneon titles, if you count that.  These sets need more, especially for a show that is in its second season.
