The
success of NASCAR is a phenomenal one, though if you are a fan great, if not,
you likely cannot stand it. There is
little in-between in the popular racing sport, but many seem to have great
respect for Jeff Gordon, one of the most successful drivers around. Wide
Open With Jeff Gordon/24 X 24 is a new documentary sponsored by Pepsi that
gathers interviews from all over to show us this and amounts to a strange
production that has as many ad placements as kudos for Gordon.
Maybe if
there were fewer logos all over the place and a deeper examination of the
subject, this could have been interesting, but this too often seems contrived,
though Gordon never looks bad. As a
matter of fact, he sometimes looks like he is being used. In any event, this one is for fans only.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft, does not seem HD all the way
and is not that memorably shot. The
Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix is harsh too often, has no surrounds and is a very
mixed experience at best. Do not play
this, the supplements or especially the menu sound too loud. Extras include deleted scenes, bloopers,
behind the scenes and more interviews.
