In many
films and other media rose the idea of the Canadian Royal Mounted Police as men
of honor and integrity, some of which is true, but the idea became a myth so
square that it eventually became the target of the satire that is Dudley Do-Right. Before that, you had Nelson Eddy singing as
one to Jeanette MacDonald and even serials like Universal’s The Royal Mounted Rides Again (1945)
now out on DVD from VCI.
Bill Kennedy and George Dolenz (the father of Monkee Mickey Dolenz) head
the cast as The Mounties take on try to find the murderer of a prominent
milling figure. Despite some novelty to
it, I was never impressed with the action the cliffhangers were among
Universal’s weaker offerings. A curio,
VCI has fit all 13 chapters on one DVD, but all in all, this is for completists
only.
The 1.33
X 1 black and white image is old, a few generations down and even has some
digititis in parts. The Dolby Digital
2.0 Mono is also aged and down a couple of generations. Extras include stills, cliffhanger trailers
and four text bios on the two leads and co-directors.
