Rockin’ Road Trip (VCI)

William
Olsen’s Rockin’ Road Trip (1985) is
one of the last of the original cycle of Troma Film-released sex comedies that
put the company on the map, but it is VCI that has picked up the film for
DVD. Set in the world of Rock Music at
its worse, this is a real comedown from his teen sex comedy Getting
It On! (1983, reviewed elsewhere on this site) and simply never
works.
The band centered on is called Cherry Suicide, with its single
entendre and female lead singer, the music is as unmemorable as the script and
is not even a good time capsule of such films at that moment. Streets
Of Fire has nothing to worry about in the capsule department, while Rock N Roll High School (also on this
site) is a model for some of this to begin with. This is a curio only for completists.
The 1.33
X 1 image is soft, dated and though framed for 1.85 X 1, is just not looking
that good. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is
dated, has background hiss throughout and shows its low budget origins. Extras include stills with commentary, Olsen
interview and trailers.
