After American Dreamz (reviewed elsewhere on
this site) did not fare so well, where was Chris Klein to go next? Pat Holden’s would-be comedy The Long Weekend (2005) has him playing
one of two dumb brothers who have been nothing but a bad influence on each
other, a mentality which has yet to hit rock bottom until now.
What
could have been a funny, even ironic film, is instead stuck on Klein’s gross
out film cycle past, which he has long grown out of you’d think. Unfortunately, the script by Tad Safran has
nothing to hang the one-note would-be jokes on and the result is a career
killer for all. This took two years to
get to DVD and anyone can see why.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft, limited and obviously shot in digital High
Definition, but inserts its share of low def video. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is about as weak as
the 2.0 Dolby and reveals the low budget origins of this mess. There are no extras.
