Tyler Perry’s Diary Of A Mad Black Woman – The Movie (2-Disc Special Edition Widescreen DVD-Video)

When we
last looked at the theatrical film version of Tyler Perry’s Diary Of A Mad
Black Woman (2005) in its
regular Widescreen DVD edition, Perry was on the rise as a producer, writer and
star. I thought it would do well on home
video after being a sleeper hit. Now, it
is so popular that Lionsgate has produced a new double DVD upgrade that is
nicer and offers some new goods. For
more on the older DVD, read about the film at the following link:

That
leaves the performance and new extras here.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image often, if not
always, looks good and is pretty much the same transfer as the original
disc. A Blu-ray is inevitable and will
make for an interesting comparison. The sound
on the older DVD was Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0, but the Dolby has been expanded
to EX and the even better, we get the hoped-for DTS and it is DTS 6.1 ES. Though the dialogue can sound limited, the
DTS in particular is richer and the best way to hear the film. It makes the humor more pronounced too.
Extras for the older DVD included four featurettes, a
trailer for the Tyler Perry Collection, commentary track by Perry and
two outtakes. This new Diary comes in a really nice case and adds deleted
scenes, stills, Tyler Perry Spotlight, second new commentary by director Darren
Grant & Kimberly Elise, making of featurette and a Who’s Tyler Perry piece.
Can’t wait to see how far he gets in a few more years!
