Teen Titans – The Complete Third Season

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C     Episodes: C+

Initially debuting as a comic book in 1964, The Teen Titans are in many ways a miniature and not as cool version of The Justice League, which was a big hit for DC Comics.  An animated version was even produced for TV in the late 1960s.  Now even more successful is the new version, group and era of the hit comic book as hit animated series on DVD in Teen Titans – The Complete Third Season.

The original concept behind Teen Titans was a bit more tough and macho than the WB series now on DVD exemplifies.  The Teen Titans animated series is much like The Batman television series in that it is over stylized and too reminiscent of bad anime to be all too great.  The action sequences are not horrible and the storylines seem to be watered down versions of The Justice League or Superman - The Animated Series, failing to hold the interest of this reviewer for too long.

This 2-Disc set is simple and to the point.  The picture (like The Batman) is disappointingly presented in a boring 1.33 X 1 Full Screen and though it is crisp and clear it should have most definitely been a Widescreen production.  The sound is also amazingly clear in its Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo format that is more than adequate for the needs of this series.  The extras are very sparse only offering fans a small inside look at the series in a featurette entitled Teen Titans: Know Your Foes that did not excite this reviewer, but seems like smaller children may enjoy.

This reviewer never personally liked Teen Titans, but it does have its moments of comic book excellence.  If you are a fan of the series this is a no brainer and you should pick up the series right away.  So join Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven for an epic season against the evil Blood Brother as he attempts to take over the world.  The Third Season of Teen Titans may not be the best thing ever but it does give comic book fans a taste of the Super Hero greatness that we all crave so bad.  Where are you Justice League?!
