A San
Francisco real estate broker is killed for starters and it is obvious owning a
home could come with a new price in writer/director Beth Dewey’s Kill House (2007), which could have
been an effective thriller if Dewey had a sense of humor and irony in the
making of it. Unfortunately, the
mortgage on this house expires long before the 95 predictable minutes play out.
The bad
acting throughout does not help, making that weird line between being serious
and funny in such films all the more problematic. As you watch, you wonder if this could break
through and work, but it soon becomes apparent that the housing bubble is going
to burst thanks to a lame script that more ambition could have made work. The murders are badly shot to boot. Unfortunately, you should “kill” your plans
to see it.
The
letterboxed 1.78 X 1 image is not bad and we have seen worse in this format,
but the digital shooting has hazing al the time and only its color helps it
overcome its limits. The Dolby Digital
2.0 Stereo is very weak for a genre work and is badly recorded on location
throughout. Extras include deleted scenes,
behind the scenes and some trailers.
