An
attempt to combine the police procedural and supernatural killer thriller meet
with mixed but sometimes interesting results in Ahn Sang Hoon’s thriller Arang (2006) where the victims died of
acid released inside their bodies, but something more sinister is going on and
the investigators have to work against the clock before it happens again.
Their
biggest lead is a murder that took place at a salt house a decade ago and yes,
a dead girl in white clothes with long hair keeps showing up!!! Geez, what is that? Anyhow, outside of what we have seen before
in The X-Files and the like, I was
surprised how good this still was. If
you can’t get enough of this kind of film, you might as well see this one. You could do much worse and we have.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is somewhat soft unfortunately, as the
cinematography by Moon Yong-Sik has inspired moments. The audio is here in Dolby Digital and DTS
5.1, though the DTS is a little better, this sadly was not thought out as the
multi-channel experience it could have been.
Extras include both a behind the scenes and making of featurette, the
original theatrical trailer, deleted scenes, decent audio commentary track by
cast/director and on-camera cast interviews.
