Brooke
Burke is a beautiful woman and potentially a breakout comedy star, playing the
girlfriend of an old high school football star Carter Simms (Doug Callan)
trying to prove he has not already peaked in life in Ryan Miningham’s 2004
effort Knuckle Sandwich. To further deal with this, he goes back to
his parents (Morgan Fairchild & John O’Hurley) to revisit everyone and
hopes for the best.
I could
have seen this as a comedy that said something, but the script by John K.
Fordham and Miningham gets too silly, muddled and ridiculous that this all
collapses despite the possibilities with the scenario and the casting. Worst of all is a sudden interracial affair
that leads to supposed KKK hate threats that are actually a very, very, very,
very bad joke form some “friends” that is not funny whatsoever. Even if you take the non-PC approach, it is
still stupid. That’s too bad, because
with some intelligence, this could have been a pleasant surprise. Instead, it is like a bad cable movie.
The
letterboxed 1.78 X 1 image is poor and has so many issues that it barely gets
its rating. Compositions are nothing
special, color is a saving grace often enough and that is still not often
enough, while depth and detail and a real problem. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has no surrounds
and is clear enough, though nothing special.
Extras include stills, deleted scenes of no consequence, outtakes and an
audio commentary by the makers that show they did not quite know where they
were going.
