Revenge Of The Nerds – Panty Raid Edition (DVD)

At the
time, the 1984 comedy Revenge Of The
Nerds was a one-joke film that actually spawned sequels and showed us the
world of geeks who were never going to either have a life or amount to
anything. Instead, it is they who have
overtaken the future and big business through computers and pop culture. Still, the original remains popular and here
is yet another DVD version, this time dubbed the Panty Raid Edition.
Robert
Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Timothy Busfield, Ted McGinley, Curtis Armstrong,
Brian Tochi (already known for Space
Academy, reviewed elsewhere on this site) and Bernie Casey are among the
recognizable faces who might not have been as much at the time. The jokes about sexual oppression and
bullying are typical 1980s, but by this time, they were celebrated with no
ironic distance. Wonder how it will play
in another five years.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image looks old and dated from a somewhat
dated print. The Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo is boosting the monophonic optical theatrical sound, also here in Dolby
2.0 Mono. Extras include feature length
audio commentary by director Jeff Kanew & actors Robert Carradine, Timothy
Busfield & Curtis Armstrong, "I'm
A Nerd & I'm Pretty Proud Of It" featurette, six deleted scenes,
original theatrical trailer and Revenge of the Nerds TV Pilot with
Oliver from The Brady Bunch, Robbie Rist.
