Lock Up
(Lionsgate/Artisan/Live DVD-Video)

One of
Sylvester Stallone’s weakest films and big missed opportunities is his 1989
failure Lock Up, a drama where he is
an innocent man thrown in jail and tormented by mean warden Donald
Sutherland. It had the makings of an
interesting film despite repeating the core elements of the first Rambo (on Blu-ray elsewhere on this
site) and Jeb Stuart as a co-writer.
What we got was a mess that looks test-audienced to death and has one of
the dumbest of contradictory endings.
The new
DVD looks like it might be a new edition form the paper slipcase, but the paper
insert in the DVD case is the old Live Entertainment page and the DVD has
Artisan stamped on it, so this was just a cheap attempt to make sure Rocky fans
could find this very old DVD. Its 1.85 X
1 image is very old, as is its Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround Stereo mix. The old extras (featurette, text notes &
bios and the original trailer) are also here, but that is all.
For those
thinking this would be new as a Blu-ray was on the way, forget it. If you have any older copy “locked up” in
your collection, then you have this one already.
