Michaela
(Sandra Huller) is a young woman with a dysfunction, overly religious family
who has epilepsy troubles, but it just might be something more in
Hans-Christian Schimo’s Requiem (2006),
a case similar to and an inspiration for the superior film Exorcism Of Emily Rose.
Though a somewhat ambitious effort, it is no match for the nuanced and
underrated feature film. Is she now
Satanically possessed?
I think
Huller is good and there is something interesting still about seeing the same
story on the cheap looking comparatively deconstructive (and in German!) with
less music reminds one of Warhol doing a cheap Horror film on video at
times. Unfortunately, it does not have
too many other places to go, is never truly scary and never has us ask key
questions about belief, faith and the human mind that Emily Rose did so eloquently.
It still makes for interesting alternate viewing.
The
anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image originated in digital High Definition
and looks it, with poor color, detail issues and motion hazing. The Dolby Digital German 5.1 mix is not
surround heavy or that well-recorded.
The combination is watchable, but limited. There are no extras.
